  1. Its welcome to have Yellow Fever vaccination at Sasoon Hospital, we recently visited & the service was good and hassle free. Also you can get Oral Polio at Kalavati Mavale Municipal hospital at Narayan Peth which is a travel mandate for Kenya.

    2. But have you checked if that certificate works? Recently my son took Yellow Fever Vaccination from this hospital for Kenya visit. But he was stopped at Nairobi Airport as the certificate did not have the Batch number of the medicine.
But who took vaccination from Mumbai, they were having Batch number in certificate. Also Mumbai hospital and Hospitals in abroad declare validity of this vaccination is life time. But Sasoon Hospital is saying 10 years. This is also a disputed issue. Are they providing genuine medicine?

  2. Do we need to take both vaccine on the same day? Is it mandatory to take it on the same day?

  3. While it is not mandatory to take both the vaccines on the same day, it is generally more convenient to do it together.

    1. I took polio drops first.Within 10 days I went to have yellow fever vaccine in Mumbai. There doctor told me that he can't give me the vaccine as it needs at least a month for the body to create imminity for Oral polio vaccine.I had to postpone my flight which eventually cost me a lot.
I asked the doctor to give the shot as I had my flight within 10-12 days. But doctor said it takes a month for the body to create imminity once you take the polio or yellow fever vaccine. He told me that either both should be taken within 24 hrs or a month apart.
Please clarify doctor if this is true.

  4. Hi .
Please ; What is the significance of the 10 day period after getting the vaccine shot and the certificate becoming valid ? Should one wait for 10 days after the vaccine shot before commencing onward journey ?

    1. A great question :)
The reason why the vaccine becomes valid AFTER 10 days of vaccination is that all vaccines work by stimulating the body to create immune cells. This process takes around 5-10 days. Hence full protection from the vaccine will take this long to develop.
If you travel before this time period, you will remain at a risk for getting the disease.

  6. Hi,
I would recommend that you read this post
    http://yellowfevervaccine.blogspot.in/2010/07/yellow-fever-vaccination-in-india.html
for the list of differences between the govt & private sector yellow fever vaccination,
In short Pvt clinics offer better & easier experience, WHO approved single dose French vaccine,
While the govt vaccine is cheaper, and in rare cases has better acceptability in the Indian immmigration

    2. Yes, kids above 6 months can be safely vaccinated.
Most countries however, do not insist on the vaccination till the child is 1 year old

  12. Hi,
In most cases, it does not really matter when you take the Polio drops, as there is no rule about putting you in quarantine for not having Polio drops.
Just relax, take a deep breath, and take the drops as soon as possible :)
    Everything will be fine !
    Enjoy your trip !!

    1. Hi,
I am not aware of any private center in Pune that is issuing the WHO International Certificate of Vaccination.
We have centers in Delhi & Chandigarh doing this, and it costs Rs 3200/- per person at our centers.
